We are an experienced local construction company that specializes in framing basements. The company is run by Thomas Osterhoudt who has been a life long construction enthusiast. Those who know him joke that he even coughs saw dust!
We love working hard and putting integrity into our work. We do an essential part of building homes by doing the framing and that is important to us because families are built there too. We serve the people in the areas around Idaho Falls and Rexburg.
When a basement is framed, the walls are the standard of how the rest of the basement turns out, especially when it comes to the positioning and safety of the project. Setting the stage for a basement with quality framing isn't for the unexperienced do-it-yourself home owner, unless you have solid experience framing where you live and access to all the many professional tools required. A difficult part comes when constructing the frames around obstructions such as posts, heating ducts and pipes.
It is a common occurrence for us to come in to "finish the job" after another contractor didn't set the walls right. After we construct the remaining walls correctly, the badly built walls have to be removed and reconstructed most of the time.
If you are planning on finishing other parts of the basement, employing a professional basement framer will be the best option for a safe and quality basement done according to code in a timely manner.
By adding a room to your basement, you can add equity to your home by $10,000 per room!
Not able to accept family and friends over night? Or are they sleeping on the floor?

Basements are great for a set apart work room, an exercise area, or a theater room!

We provide an itemized bid so it is clear and upfront how much the project will cost. Transparency is our style.
Our clients love when we are around, however we don't like to wear out our welcome. We finish the job with top quality in a timely manner.
Sometimes it is a big leap of faith for someone to hire in our line of work. We honor our commitments even if you feel more comfortable not paying in full until we have fulfilled our part. We have got your back.
This project had a variety of town homes, 4-plexes, 8-plexes, and a clubhouse w/ a gym! The town homes have 2 levels and the 4/8-plexes have 3 levels. All 25 buildings where built within 9 months! The general contractor we worked with was highly impressed with the quality of construction.
556 S 500 E St, American Fork, UT 84003These are some of the lessons we have learned from our trade and the situations we have rescued our clients from.
Time has taught us techniques and lessons that are invaluable to end up with a job done right. These skills come in handy when framing the walls around obstructions such as posts, heating ducts and pipes. The damage preventative technics we have learned might just save your home's foundation and even a few years of your life. Another lesson is cheap tools make cheap quality. There are quite a few tools required and we have all the right ones.
We all need to save money and be smart with our finances. That is why people might consider doing the basement themselves. It can be easy to not account for the mistakes we all make though. If you are up to the task of putting some hard work into your basement there are specific parts that can be wise to do yourself. Take a lesson from many of our clients and make sure you make those decisions based on reliable sources. If you don't it will end up costing you more time and money to go down that hard labor path.
DIY-ing a basement is a game of risk where the balance of money, time, and quality are on the line. Even hiring a jack-of-all-trades can lead to a job done wrong because they don't know what they don't know. Experienced general contractors and many construction companies know the cost on the line here and hire tradesmen to do the work correctly. We specialize in quality framing done right, and skilled construction professionals hire us to do the job correctly.
Time is a valuable commodity, especially these days with all the distractions that surround us. We do our work professionally and most people find a wiser balance is to hire tradesmen who specialize in framing. This leaves you available to work in your chosen profession to earn the money, and time to spend with those you love. It takes about 2 years for a basement to be completed in the average homeowner's spare time. Experts say that it usually takes six to eight weeks for a simple basement to be finished when worked on continuously. In the end, the best balance between quality of the job, time in your life, and money left in your wallet is probably hiring professional tradesmen who know framing just as well as their mama has known them. Don't all mama's have eyes in the back of their head?
There are a lot of regulations and codes that need to be met when finishing a basement. These codes vary by state and municipality. They also change periodically. For these reasons and more it is difficult to find reliable information on what codes and regulations you need to follow. Most homeowners just aren't aware of all the specific codes that apply and they get into trouble later on.
Some examples of codes that vary between municipality are: lumber touching the floor needing to be treated to prevent decay, creating a vapor barrier, specifics of how a vapor barrier is installed (interior/exterior), exposed concrete walls being treated differently than those behind framed walls, floating framed walls, and how much space is required between the concrete and the framing based on the R-value of the insulation to be used.
